wedding wednesday

This weekend was going to be a very productive wedding weekend but plans changed. We were going to go to Austin to pick up my dress and look at bridesmaids dresses (and shop for clothes) but we can't now and it makes me sad. Because now I have to work all day Friday and Saturday. Boo. We will be going in a couple of weeks though. Matt was going to come with us but now he isn't even coming here because I have to work and he has a project to work on. We are going on like 4 weeks without seeing each other. I don't like that.
Anyways I wanted to share with you something way cool that we are thinking about doing for our send off after the reception. The lady that is doing our catering told us about sky lanterns. I looked them up and fell in love with them! How can you not?

So I started doing a little research on them and apparently there is a lot of negative things being said about them. Fire hazard and pollution being the top two. So now I will just have to think about it more and hope we get some rain closer to the wedding (so there won't be a burn ban in effect). If we don't do these we will probably do sparklers.

What do you think about them? Have you ever used them?

save the dates

Here they are! I really had so much fun designing them and putting them together. We only sent them out to family and the bridal party so I didn't have too many to do. If there would have been more I may have not enjoyed it as much. :)

Please excuse the mess on the table. That is what happens when I start paper crafting.

I used all my favorites. Bakers twine, happy tape, and envelope liners! All of these things make me very happy! :)

Let me know what you think!

wedding wednesday

we registered for wedding gifts about a month ago. we wanted to do it while i was still in lubbock.
here are some of my favorite things that we registered for and i am excited about!

there are from target:

these are from bed bath and beyond:

and these are from wal-mart:

in case you don't know i am from a smallish town in west texas. aka there is no crate and barrel, macy's, or pottery barn nearby. hence the reason we registered at target, walmart, and bed bath beyond.

dress shopping and stamps

I accidentally posted this last night...for some reason the scheduling thing for posts doesn't work if you put 2010 in for the year. Not used to it being 2011 yet.

(even though i don't look too happy in that picture i was really happy to be dress shopping!)

Every wednesday from now until the wedding I hope to post something wedding related! I know I'm not the first person to have wedding wednesday but oh well...

Shopping for a wedding dress is exhausting! and i didn't really try very many on. well about 8. and i really only tried on one ugly one. (it was bad). I had so much fun with my mom and sisters. At the beginning it was really hard to decide if a dress was the one or not becuase I liked them all! Except for the ugly one. But then when I put the last one I knew it was for me! There were no tears or anything but I knew that I loved it!
I really wish I could show you all the dresses I tried on but matthew reads this and I don't want him to see any of the dresses I tried on until after he sees me in the dress...which will be on June 11th.

In other news, I am obsessed with vintage stamps for invitations.

like these from here
Aren't they lovely? I plan on starting to collect these soon. well I may have found some on ebay and Imay have bid and won them today! Just a few! I can't wait for my collection to grow even more!

p.s. working until from 8am-7pm stinks...in case you didn't already know.

honeymoon in mexico

Our honeymoon will be the first vacation we take with just the two of us. It was important to us to find a place we would both enjoy and a place where we could relax and not have to worry about anything.

After 2 months of research we finally found what looks like the perfect place and have booked it!

Since we are both still in school and not working full time jobs our budget for the honeymoon was kind of small. We looked at staying in the states. Flying was a little cheaper that way but the price of a nice hotel and food quickly would add up. We looked at Colorado, Florida, and even Alaska.

I fell in love with the thought of an Alaskan honeymoon. If you know Matthew you know he loves the snow and outdoors so I thought Alaska would be perfect! Flying to Alaska was expensive and the trip would have been road trip style (which we decided would be fun but not for our honeymoon). The cost of car rental, food, hotel and flight quickly went out of our budget. I was sad that it wasn't going to happen but I quickly got over it with the promise to go there someday (I can't wait!!).

Then we started looking at the Caribbean and saw that it was cheapest to go to Mexico. At first we tried to avoid Mexico because of all the violence but you really can't beat the price. Plus all-inclusive resorts on the beach are pretty nice.

So here is where we are going:

Dreams Villamagna Nuevo Vallarta in Mexico!!

Here are some pictures of this fabulous resort:

Room with balcony. Ours won't be facing the ocean like this one but I am sure we will have a nice view.

A look at the very modern and very nice bathroom.

The balcony has a jacuzzi!

Here is the resort grounds. Lots of swimming pools and the beach is just a few steps away!

I am super excited!!

Wedding decision 1 out of 34923 done!

Just kidding I have more than 1 done...more like 5  :)

engagement picture clothes

Here are the outfits I think I am going to wear for our engagement pictures!

1. I ordered the dress and am waiting for it to come in. I really hope it fits good and isn't too short. I already have the leopard flats and I got the necklace at a store called Charming Charlie in Cedar Park. (If you ever have a chance to go to a Charming Charlie, go! It is a super cute store and has all kinds of accessories sorted by color!)

2. I wanted a fall-like outfit and I wanted to wear my Tom's too. I already have all of these pieces. I will probably just wear a grey shirt under the jacket.

3. I found the denim dress and necklace at Charlotte Russe. Since the necklace has a little bit of light pink in it I thought it would look cool to have light pink tights underneath. I don't have the tights yet but plan on ordering them soon.

What do you think?

Now all I need to do is figure out what Matt is going to wear! I have some ideas but need to figure it out soon.

I might be MIA the next couple of days because I have a big retirement planning mid term coming up on thursday. However I most likely will find the time for blogging (it's a good distraction from studying :).

wedding photographer

remember when i mentioned here who our wedding photographer was going to be? well something came up and now we have a new photographer.

brooke will still be doing our engagement pictures (which i am super excited and nervous about), but now caroline joy photography will be doing our wedding! you can go to her blog to see some of her work. i really like her style! her photos even remind me a little bit of jasmine stars photos.

the wedding photography is one of the most important things (besides the actual marriage) about the wedding for me. i am super happy with our choice and can't wait to work with both of these photographers! we will be taking engagements within the next couple of months and i will for sure be posting some of them here. can't wait to share them with you!

Fabric Part 2

I spent a good amount of time on Friday looking for fabric online. It got very frustrating. Here are some that I found that could possible work but not exactly what I was looking for.
(source)
(source)
(source) I am really liking the last one. Not sure about the size of the print (probably too small) so I ordered a sample of it. I would be ok with using the stripe pattern. I think it fits our modern look we are going for. I threw the grey fabric in there because I thought it was fun!
Stay tuned to see more of the fabric search!

fabric

Since I didn't post anything yesterday you will get two posts today!
Remember this picture from my inspiration board?
This is the inspiration for what will be behind us when we get married. I saw this picture and fell in love. We are thinking about that size and covered with a blue and white modern geometric fabric with a wide frame around it. So the search for fabric has begun. I haven't looked a whole lot. A couple of days ago design sponge posted the top 20 fabric resources. I am in the process of going through each resource and looking at all the fabrics. Hopefully I will find the perfect one! If you know of any other resources for fabric please let me know!

invitation inspiration

Sorry for the lack of post yesterday. I was consumed with looking at Alaska (possible destination of our honeymoon - more on that later) and trying to fix a photographer crises (now it is fixed and good!) I completely forgot to post anything yesterday!
While catching up on the wedding bee blog I ran across these 12 steps to creating DIY wedding invitations. I plan on designing and making our invitations myself so this post was perfect for me! Here are the 12 steps:
1. Make sure you give yourself enough time
2. Think carefully about your "reply by" date
3. When designing start with your envelopes
4. Work backwards with your dimensions
5. It's "Two thousand nine", not "Two thousand and nine"
6. Make your words look pretty
7. Don't include registry information
8. Print out drafts of your design - don't just look at it on the computer
9. Proofread, proofread, and proofread some more
10. Weigh everything before buying postage
11. Send an invitation to yourself before sending to your guests
12. Take a deep breath and send 'em!
(you can click on the link above for more details about each step)
Some I have already thought about but some of these I would have never thought about. Especially number 5. I am not very good with grammar and spelling.
After reading those steps I started to look around for some diy invitations other brides had done. I found these pretty fast and love them!
I love the modern script font and the clear inside envelopes and how they are very simple. Oh and the baker's twine! LOVE! She goes through the entire process of making them.

inspiration board

(frame)(invitation)(cake)(blueandpink)(flowers)(guestbook)(tie)(macaroon)(silvertom)(bridesmaiddress)(graysuits)(graytom)(balloons) Here is my inspiration board for our wedding! Anytime I get distracted or get overwhelmed I will need to come and look at this to remind me what I really want. So navy blue and gray with a tiny bit of really light pink here and there. I am really excited! I tried to link where I found everything but I don't remember where I found some of the things. The logo and the navy blue lattice print I made (with the help of Matthew). I really like the feel of the board. I hope you like it too!

will you be my bridesmaid?

So now that I have officially asked all of my girls to stand next to me on the most exciting day of my life I wanted to share with you how I asked them!
I found this idea from Elise.
I already had the exact same envelopes in gray, and plus one of the wedding colors is gray so they were perfect!
I took what she did and made it fit for me and I love the way the turned out!
In other news WRP has been open for 2 months! During these two months I have had 29 sales, 86 shop hearts and have been featured on the front page twice! Here are the screen shots:

My sales went up for the month of August. I am so proud of my shop and I hope that it continues to grow!
